Hi! I'm Ann

I am a civil engineer and avid hiker. There are a lot of other aspects to me, like anyone else, but those are probably the two most defining.

Civil Engineer: I went to the University of Washington in Seattle in 2012. I thought I would start off as "pre-engineering" but mostly intending to study physics. Then I learned what a civil engineer does - they make society's infrastructure. My favorite joke: It is the oldest profession in the world (next to whoring ;) ) I loved the idea of building tools to enhance my community, whether it was a dam or a windmill or a bridge. I graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a minor in Mathematics (Math minor!). I worked as a consulting engineer for 2 years in the civil/site development group at KPFF, before switching to their bridge group for 1 year. In 2019 I went back to school at the University of Washington to get my Master's in Structural Engineering.

Avid Hiker: I love nature and spending time outdoors. Rain or shine, wind or winter snow, I am a firm believer in the axiom, "There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear." I spend most weekends in the summer out hiking or backpacking, and if I'm feeling super ambitious I'll be training to climb a glacier of some sort... Like Mount Rainier! In the winter you can usually find me snowboarding or snow shoeing.  I like to read and craft and watch old TV shows, normally with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine - depending on the time of day.

I won a scholarship in 2019 called the Valle Scholarship. In 1980 the scholarship was founded with the intent to create more interaction and exchange between the University of Washington and the Nordic countries. These countries include: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Over 750 scholarships have been funded since its inception. My scholarship is specifically for a 9-month study abroad experience at KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. My scholarship will expire July 1st, 2022.
